It's been a while..

It's been quite a while since my last post, mainly due to lack of interest in current technology news. With all of the hype surrounding the iPhone 3G there has little other news regarding other new technology. Considering this i thought i would give my view about the iPhone and mention the phone i am most looking forward to.

The original iPhone has been around for a while now but only limited to a hand full of locations around the world. The release of the new 3G iPhone has seen it dispatched all around the world, amazingly released on the same date (not necessarily the same day) in every location. + 1 for Apple there.

Although i rate their marketing i'm not overwhelmed by the iPhone it's self, basically the way i see it is, it's a toy, a very expensive toy. All they have really done is make PDA type phones more mainstream by making them "fun" and "cool". Just an expensive emulation. One area the iPhone does do well in is software, although i think it is limited by the hardware.

The hardware on the iPhone was a bit of a let down to me, hardly changed from the original. The touch screen, despite it being big, the resolution is quite low. Memory, limited to its original size, no option for expansion via high capacity flash cards. Camera, for such an expensive phone i would have expected something a little better. The worst probably being the change in size and shape, for all of those who possessed an original iPhone their old iPhone docks will no longer be compatible, on release there wasn't a iPhone plus dock bundle which would have been a great idea.

Overall a bit of a let down, props to apple for their software would have liked to see it backed up with the hardware though.

Now, the phone i'm most looking forward to is Sony Ericsson's Xperia X1, very nice design with great features to match. Check the link for more info.

Somewhat like the iPhone just a higher quality phone.
